I just watched a documentary about a long-married couple, who, having both been deaf since birth, decided to get cochlear implants at the age of 65.

Talk about amplifying possibility into reality.

The husband adapted more readily than the wife, primarily because he was less attached to the outcome. He thought, what have a I got to lose? I can always go back to being deaf.

His wife had higher expectations. She wanted to understand everything she heard right away. She thought if she turned up her implant all the way, somehow the sounds she was hearing would make sense to her.

Instead, they just gave her a headache.

A year after having the implants, both of them had figured out the role they wanted sound to play in their lives. They had unraveled some of its mysteries, and they had discarded some of its features.

But mostly, they had learned how to support each other through the process. They paced each other so that neither would get left behind.

Ultimately, these are the lessons we learn when we try something new. And our attachment or detachment from the end result will make the process easier or harder for us.

What I learned from watching this documentary is that if you want to make significant change in your life--if you want the possibility of hearing after being deaf your whole life--then you must take a risk; you must accept and weather it's consequences; and you must let go of your expectations and let the universe do its work.

And it doesn't hurt to have someone who loves you nearby.

Love and possibility! --Kim

The book has the best tool I've ever seen for discovering and prioritizing your passions, and is full of heart and spirit. You can find out more about Janet and the book by visiting http://www.thepassiontest.com.

I heard Janet's inspirational speech at the Work-Life Balance Educational Conference for BusinessWomen. There were 1500 women at this event. It was uplifting and a great way to spend a half a day. I'd also recommend a subscription to Balance Magazine, http://www.balancemagazine.com.

Scientists have discovered that cells grown in 3-D spaces such as gelatins behave differently and more powerfully than when their growth is limited to flat, two-dimensional environments like petri dishes. Limiting the cells' growth to a flat space changes the metabolism, gene expression and growing patterns of the cells. When given three dimensions in which to grow, the extra dimension opens new possibilities for the cells that are unavailable in the petri dish. The cells' immediate surroundings guide and modify their behavior and growth.

Similarly, visions and dreams that are written down or pasted on vision boards only reveal a tiny portion of the power inherent in those visions and dreams.

In order to unleash the full power of your vision, give it a multi-dimensional space in which to grow.

How? Wear your vision like a skin every day. Live your life as if your vision had already come true.

When you allow your vision to be expressed not only in writing or pictures, but also verbally, socially, emotionally and actually, you will increase the power of your vision by at least an order of magnitude. Your environment will respond to your living vision by giving you what you need to bring your vision to life while at the same time molding your skills as its creator.

For just one week, live as if your dream had already come true. How would your behavior change? Your self-talk? Your emotional landscape? How would you move through your days, knowing that you had already arrived?

This simple practice has made an enormous difference in my life. I would love to hear what it does for you!

Let's start this week, Monday, April 14th. On the following Friday or Saturday, send me your comments about your experience. Every person who sends a comment will be entered in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate at Target.

Wishing you every possibility this week!

I am not Jewish, and perhaps that's why I was amazed to find an article in my Easter paper about a local temple adding a few not-particularly-religious incentives to their Friday ritual: a band and a bar. They call it Schmooz'N Shabbat, and it happens once a month. This Friday, there's an extra hour of partying they're calling Kegs & Kahillah.

If you've ever attended a Christian church, this will probably seem very foreign to you. YET. This temple has figured out a way to encourage young Jews to attend services and then congregate, which is what the temple is all about. Since attendance by a younger audience had been declining, the temple came up with this strategy. Their answer is a bit out of the ordinary, but has been effective, with about 150 people attending both the services and the Schmooz portion of the evening.

Here's what the temple figured out: if you do the same thing over and over again, you're likely to create the same results.

Let's say that you have a challenge facing you right now. Could you spend 15 minutes imagining wacky answers to the problem, things that you wouldn't "normally" do? And then....if one of those answers appealed to you...could you do it?

When you compare the risk of doing the same old thing over and over again—that is, that you'll end up in the same place you are now—versus the risk of trying something completely new and different—which risk has more downside? Just asking.....

Yes, your mother cares, perhaps your siblings and friends. Your co-workers might want you to be happy.

But ultimately, you are the only one who cares about how you feel today and can do anything about it.

SO...How will you choose to feel today?

Life is short...Amp It Up!

Here's a quote from my mom: "Therapy is a boat that can take you to the other side, but then you have to GET OFF."

Visualization is the same way. Spend some of your time imagining how your dream life will be and how you will feel while living it, and with the rest of your time, start living that life!

Take no prisoners, my friends!

A quote today from Rosa Sugrañes, a founder of Iberia Tiles in Miami, a very successful businesswoman, and a speaker at the Women's Congress. She quotes her father:

"Nothing is difficult. It's either easy, or impossible."

I love this philosophy. Break it up in small enough pieces, and you can climb Mount Everest, triple the size of your business, run a marathon...accomplish anything you want. And have FUN doing it.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
