If I want my dream possibilities to come true, I need to spend the time to mentally focus on that divine place in time when they have come true. If what I see of my future is fuzzy, or dark, or the status quo, then the dreams I want to bring to life will struggle. If I don't ponder them at all, what chance have they?
Know the life you wish to create inside and out. Deep familiarity with your dreams will allow you to predict the future you will create.
When I was 12, I lived in a commune. One of our housemates was a woman who held a black belt in karate and gave us self-defense lessons. Back then her name was Pat, but she later changed it to Banshee and appeared on the cover of Ms. Magazine in her role as a bodyguard for a sheik.
She once took me to a karate demonstration at a local university. Students, or karatekas, from several different schools were performing their particular styles of karate. One school, or dojo, had a woman as a member of their otherwise all-male dojo. They worked through their first kata, or routine, and I couldn't take my eyes off this woman. She was very slight in contrast to her much larger classmates. Her movements matched those of the men perfectly. At the end of the routine, she came to the front of the group and spoke to the audience.
"I am the only woman in this dojo. When I first began to practice here, the men would take off their uwagis, the top part of the karate uniform, and work the katas barechested. Because I am a woman, I have never been allowed to do this in the dojo. Today, outside of the dojo, our roles will be reversed."
So saying, she stripped off her top, laid it aside, and barechested, went back to her position among the fully clothed men. Together, they performed the next kata flawlessly.
I watched with my mouth hanging open. I was awed by her courage. I was awed by the statement she was making on behalf of all women. I wanted to be as free and confident in myself as she was.
All these years later, the telling of this story still brings tears to my eyes. It is my goal to be as brave as that woman was in every moment of my life.
Are you expressing yourself fully in this moment? In this life? If not, when will you start?
A gutter installer named Rick came by my house to give me an estimate at 7:30 this morning. He was a pleasant man, and his business was just a few blocks from my house.
The first thing he asked me was, "How did you hear about us?"
(If I could get my all my business coaching clients to do that, I would be so happy!)
I told him that first I'd found him on Google, and then I saw him in the Yellow Pages. On Google there was just a simple listing, and I told him he would be doing his business a favor if he put up a website. That way, he could tell his story to the people who used the Internet to look for services. He agreed that he needed one, but he was just not an Internet person. I told him I could recommend a designer, and then all he would need is the copy and some pictures. He asked me for my card, and read my title.
"Chief Amplifier?" he said. "What's that?"
I said, "I help individuals and businesses discover new possibilities for themselves and amplify those possibilities into reality. For businesses owners, that means I do things like help develop a growth strategy, design new profit centers, open new sales channels, and ultimately, help the owner put together an exit strategy, so he or she can stop working and go on to something else."
He laughed, in an "I wish" sort of way. "I don't think I'm gonna stop working any time soon. I'm raising three kids. I just don't see it."
I smiled, and said, "It could happen. You just need a vision and a plan."
But I could tell he didn't believe me. And I wondered if Rick would ever get his mind out of gutters and set his sights on the stars.

I wanted to post info about my jump right after I did it. Well, as might be expected, in the little coastal surfer town of Raglan, NZ, there wasn't any Internet access. But there WERE beautiful views:
SO. Here's a picture of me prior to jumping off the tallest building in New Zealand, the SkyTower:
Now as you can see, it's pretty damn high. We're looking down on the tops of skyscrapers here, folks. The SkyTower is the tallest building in NEW ZEALAND.
Okay. So on the platform, I'm good. If you could see the video (which I left in our beautiful seaside rental in Raglan), you would see that I'm calm and excited, as this picture pretty much shows. I'm even good jumping off the platform.
Then it happens. I jump, and there's nothing holding me. There's a wire attached to the harness I'm wearing, but it's slack. I leap out over the tops of buildings, the bay, and the very hard and unforgiving pavement below.
For a split second, my entire body says WHAT THE F%$#????? WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO NOW???? YOU JUMPED OFF A BUILDING!!!!! THIS IS NOT ON THE PROGRAM!!! And I can feel my little arms and legs beginning to twitch because they want to do that big, rotating "I'M FALLING OFF A BUILDING!!!" routine, like you see in the movies. But the SkyJump folks do have me on a wire, so I abruptly stop falling. Which, you might think, is better, EXCEPT--now I'm hanging 600 feet in the AIR over the hard and unforgiving pavement.
And I dangle. And I dangle. And I'm admiring the view. The very, very high view of Auckland. Which I would have paid much more for if I'd hired a helicopter, but couldn't possibly improve on by being in such a vehicle.
And then I hear my trusty companion, whats-his-name, shouting at me from the platform: "Kim! Need a photo! Photo opp!"
So, I obligingly comply:
Now, some people say I look better with my hair down than up. I say, you jump off of a 630-foot building, and we'll talk about my hairstyle.

Raquel Chavez, the owner of a small store called La Racha ("A Streak of Luck") in Mexico City, took on Coca-Cola, and won.
When she began to carry a less expensive soft drink called Big Cola, her distributor told her she had to get rid of it, or he would stop selling Coca-Cola to her. She refused.
The threats went on, and the distributor stopped bringing Coke, so she filed a complaint with the Federal Competition Commission. They sat on it. (Coke does, after all, own about 70% of the market.) Raquel persisted, badgering them, until they investigated the complaint. In the meantime, she bought cases of Coke at another store and dragged them in and out of the store herself.
The results? Coca-Cola and 15 of its distributors were fined $68 million dollars for their illegal attempts to block Big Cola from entering the market.
Raquel's store may be called La Racha, but it is Raquel's unwillingness to settle that causes her be on a continuous streak of luck.
I have decided that, like Raquel, I am on a streak of luck, too. Everything is going my way, even when sometimes it appears that it isn't. I'll hold my dreams firmly in mind, and I won't let anyone stop me from amplifying them into reality.
Would you care join me?
What would today be like if you were on your own streak of luck?
Wishing you every possibility!
Equipment, equipo, equipage, accoutrement. Don't go trying to cross time and space with just a breakfast bar.
I knew that while I was running my half marathon, I would need to manage my energy level to make sure I could go the distance. So, Michael and I stopped at a 24-hour McDonald's at 4:20 am to get breakfast.
Well. Some of you may know that at 4:20 am, McDonald's is not serving breakfast. They're serving their all-night menu, which consists of 3 things, one of which is a QuarterPounder.™ I did not know this, because I am old, and I very seldom visit Mickey D's at 4:20 a.m. Anymore. So, anyway, we decided that we needed some time to digest this meal before running 13.1 miles, so we went ahead and bought a couple of QuarterPounders.™
Along the route, we drank what they provided at the water stations, which was both water and some kind of energy drink. Energy drinks are usually pretty acidic, but they provide important fuel, carbohydrates, which your body can draw on as you run. And then there are the energy gels, which are also hard on your stomach. I started to worry a little bit.
However! I had packed two Pepcid AC's™ in my little waist pack, because everybody needs a contingency plan!
Fortunately, I never needed to use them, because I was tuned into my body and switched over to just water as I noticed my stomach getting unhappy. A friend of mine who ran the full marathon, though, had a horrible time with his stomach, and ended up vomiting after crossing the finish line. So I was glad I had my contingency plan.
Before I left the house, I took 3 Extra-Strength Tylenols™ and 2 B-complex vitamin pills. I rubbed Aspercreme™ on my feet as a precaution. (Remember how unhappy my feet were.) At 11 miles, I shared a gel with Michael that we had brought in our packs.
If I had not equipped myself so well to take on this challenging task, I would not have faired as well, and perhaps would have failed. By packing the right equipment and supplies, I had a successful and fun event.
Are you equipped for the journey to your dream future? Do you have a thought-out contingency plan?
I want you to get there feeling good!
